musical thoughts

I’m going to try posting some audio-only stuff I’ve worked on in my studio. If you guys like this (or hate it), let me know in comments. I’m considering doing a podcast format. I’m just not sure what the interest in that would be.

Here’s the goods:

This doesn’t really sound like much else that I’ve posted here. It’s kind of an ambient piece. It doesn’t have a beat (at least not an obvious one) and I’m not playing Rhodes. This is all synth stuff. I was listening to some Ligeti earlier today and I think that comes though (although this is nothing near as good as Ligeti).

Here all the note values are long, and the development is slow, but you will find me using the ideas of texture and dissonance to manipulate tension and release. There’s no chord progression, no melody; the entire deal is over a D drone. I’m not really thinking of chords so much as shapes moving over that drone.
