video: somewhat insincere

More loop jam, but this one is in 13/8 for variety’s sake.

I came up with this in the car driving home. I quickly captured it in my notebook. This is what I started this tune with:

drum pattern

I recorded that on the Alesis drum kit real quickly (in three passes–hi hat fist, then kick+snare, then crashes), then came up with a sort of chord progression sitting at the Rhodes. Once I had that worked out, I laid the bass line down first, then did my Rhodes take. And this is the result. About three hours from idea to posted video.

  4. Several sections (including the one from 2:21 - 2:43) are primo examples of two-handed melodic chording. Great stuff. A laptop/MIDI set-up in your car would cut your production time down to under 4 hours.

  10. Great stuff, a fascinating 'burbling stream' kind of flow married to a very sharp and, as ever, supremely funky style. Liked the run off descent at the end :) CHeers.

  1. what do you use to make the loops, and record the rhodes/drums/bass when you have it?

  2. scottasin, that’s pretty thoroughly described in this post: http://music.linear1.org/2008/04/07/my-recording-setup/
