video: interlude
Another funky loop, but I’m back to 4/4 for a while.
I really stomped on the limiter to get a certain sound with this one, and the encoding I use to get things in stereo on YouTube doesn’t deal very gracefully with high average levels. So here’s an MP3 that sounds a hell of a lot better.
I think the bass line in this is about as good as the piano solo myself. It would probably benefit from more repetition (especially if this went on any longer), but the constant change is a particular sound that I like (this is very influenced by a Miles Davis track called “Star on Cicely” from the 1982 album “Star People”).
Actually this groove and bass line started out to be the 4/4 section of an arrangement of Mysterious Traveller, and I played the bass line in F#. It’s transposed (magically) up to Bb for this.
This is kind of a little less polished than some of my other arrangements, but I sort of like the looseness of it, and I’m attempting to value just frequently posting a variety of different sounds, and trying to show the audience that there are a lot of different dimensions to my style. I could have spent another 30 hours refining this to be 5% better than it is, but in just about 3 hours I got this far. I’d rather do this 10 more times with the 30 hours, at least at this point in my development.
