video: Walkin’

All the cerebral stuff on here needs to be balanced out, so here’s a straight-ahead blues in F to enjoy while all the theory steeps in to your skull.

This was extensively recorded by Miles Davis, and I sure favor the uptempo although I can’t get it as fast as he played it with the second great quintet. There’s some recordings with Tony Williams (Miles in Berlin) where it’s just blistering fast. This is somewhere in the middle-fast range.

I go in blowing and don’t play the head till several choruses in. Just to change things up some.

  2. Please forgive me if I am asking you a stupid question. The Richard Carpenter is THE Richard Carpenter, Karen's brother?

  3. Holy crap!! You nail this sucker! You are so damn bluesy. Must be the proximity to Kansas City. I'm still tapping my foot - great feel and just makes me feel good listening to this. I hear the Les McCann influence too. Excellent playing!
